It's clear and sunny today, and breezy – and much cooler than it's been. I wanted a sweater for the walk from bus stop to office, but then I remembered that I needed to deposit my latest paycheck immediately, so I took the skyway where I could use an ATM along the way.

This morning's bus ride turned into an ordeal when something went wrong with the back door. It popped open along with the front door at every stop, whether needed or not, and when the driver closed it an alarm went off: a constant, high-pitched beeping that kept up throughout the journey from Cedar Avenue all the way downtown. It would stop when the doors opened, and start up again when they closed. I would rather that we drove with the doors open, but maybe there's some reason the driver couldn't do that. I covered my ears with my hands. The person in front of me had head phones. I've never thought about wearing them on the bus before, but they looked awfully good this morning.
