This morning the sky was that heart-rending blue, between the flocks of little clouds. I just missed the #19 bus, but was alerted to the fact by the person I pass every morning who waits on the opposite corner. Thus warned, I was wary and avoided boarding the #52 to the University by the same mistake I made the other day. On the bus I was reading Busman's Honeymoon by Dorothy Sayer. It was listed first among the titles of works in the Lord Peter Wimsey series, but I suspect that was an alphabetical not chronological list and I've got it out of order. Ah well; I'm hooked now and not about to stop to find the correct beginning of the series. During my lunch break yesterday I went to the Barnes and Noble and bought this book along with a couple other, fantasy, titles. I wanted to get Ombria in Shadow by McKillip, but it was twice the price of most paperbacks and I thought I'd better wait until I can get to Uncle Hugo's and check the used section. I can't really afford to be buying any books right now, but an addict's got to have her fix, doesn't she?
At the team meeting in the morning we gave Ken a sympathy card, noting the death of the cat he had kept for sixteen years. He's one of the best Team Leaders I've known - a real human being. I picked up the card the night before when I went to the Rainbow to get a few groceries and a couple lottery tickets. Before the meeting I got everyone to sign it (except for Mary H, who I didn't see). Most of the day was not notable: the usual mail problems and Sleeping DCA cases.
At home, when I'd watched Friends and played some computer games I went upstairs and spent some time with my mandolin, playing some of the songs I've been working on memorizing: Turning Toward the Morning, River, Bedlam Cats, The Mary Ellen Carter and John O Dreams. I also sang Rollin in My Sweet Baby's Arms before I was done.
