It's been a brisk, sunny day. I took the day off from work to be here while Bryan got started on the upper porch repairs. This involved his deconstruction of the existing porch: a layer of tarpaper over a layer of rotting plywood over a layer of plastic sheeting over another layer of tar and rotting wood: all soaking wet, crumbling and inhabited by carpenter ants. Bryan handled the removal all by himself, while I worked on a some bookmarks inspired by reading about the chakras. There was a lot of banging and thumping overhead and I was glad to be there to give Tigger some reassurance through the fresh chaos. Bryan and Tigger have made friends now, so I'm thinking it will be okay to leave Tigger alone with him tomorrow while I go back to the day job.
When Bryan got down to the bare beams and lath we realized that some fresh insulation was required for the area over the pantry. I went out to get some fiber glass batting. I thought of a building supply place off 28th Street and went round the area three times but couldn't find it where I thought it was located. I got stopped on Lake Street by a policeman and ticketed for driving without current tabs or proof of insurance. Lord knows how much that will cost me. I headed out Highway 12 to Menards through rush hour traffic and back home again through rush hour traffic - but at least I got the roll of insulation I was after.
