Saturday before last Ray helped me dump some junk and we made a trip to the toxic waste dump to dispose of a lot of old paint. We followed up by seeing LOTR, Return of the King. (Impressive movie, with the usual quibbles.)

On Wednesday, the 24th, I had the day off from work and arranged a trip to the vet for Tigger. His blood test showed a highly allergic reaction to flea bites – such that just one bite would be enough to cause an itching rash over his whole body. The poor thing. The vet recommended Frontline to deter fleas, Steroids to help the itching, and an antibiotic to prevent infection where his constant licking had caused open sores. I was especially concerned about the Frontline (a neuro-toxin), since I touch Tigger a lot, but the vet assured me that it would be absorbed into his skin within 36 hours, where it would cause no problems for either of us. Of course Tigger continued to groom himself and was sick three times that night (Christmas Eve) and I felt poorly all the next day. I didn't feel well enough to go out to the X-Mas gathering at the Courts of Chaos as planned, or to the Toad Hall House Cooling that weekend, though I did get some appetite back after voiding my stomach.

I spent a quiet weekend at home, playing with the Sims expansion pack I got from Santa (The Sims Makin' Magic), and doing laundry. I washed all the bedding, throw rugs and throws, vacuumed the couch and sprayed it, vacuumed larger rugs thoroughly, and the upstairs futon. I got a flea collar onto Twinkler, so that now both stray boys have them.

On Friday Bryan came over and did some deconstruction on the kitchen ceiling so that we could take a look at the pipes under the tub and discover exactly where the water that's been leaking into the kitchen has been coming from. He put up some cheap plastic curtains inside the tub to prevent further water getting into the walls where the old tiling has worn away, and caulked the bottom of the tub where it had cracked. At first he thought the leaking was coming from a join where a copper pipe connected to a galvanized iron pipe, but last night – after a few days of drying out – it looks as if the leakage had all come through the walls around the tub and the crack in its bottom – the pipes look okay and there's been no more water leaking into the kitchen even when I take a long enough shower to condition my hair. This is good news as far as pipes are concerned, but the plan is still to replace the tub and the tiling on its surrounding walls.
