Something mplsfish said got me to thinking and I have concluded that the world is very much like a cat.

It wants attention, and when you forget this it gets between your feet and trips you up. It wants attention - except when it doesn't - in which case just leave things alone: if the world is basking in the sun, the best thing to do is to follow its example.

If you treat the world gently it is most likely to treat you gently in turn. Sometimes it gets wild for no apparent reason and there may be damage done, but there's not necessarily any malice in it. If you mistreat it you can expect it to become scary and sinister in turn.

It is alive, aware and smarter than you think, but speaks in signs rather than words. Sometimes it likes to play. Sometimes it likes to snuggle. Don't presume too much; it will tell you what it wants if you know how to listen.
