Convergence is past. I returned just this evening, hauled in my bundles and grids and bags, then collapsed for a while to recover.
All in all I had a great time. Sitting at a dealer’s table for most of the convention was confining, but it was also a way to meet and talk to some interesting people. I did participate on a couple panels, and afterward some people who’d been in attendance recognized me again in the dealer’s room and struck up conversations. One of the most interesting encounters was with a couple of women who are working on a Pagan gathering here in the cities later this year. They invited me to participate as an exhibitor there, and if scheduling works out it sounds like something fun to do.
Some fans of Discordian philosophy also stopped by and encouraged me to bring my work to Norwescon in Seattle, where they say there’s a big Discordian following. (It’s the same weekend as Minicon, so I probably won’t make it, but I could send coloring books to the print shop, certainly). This was my most successful experiment so far in selling my work: a handful of smaller beaded bookmarks and one of the larger ones all found loving homes, as well as a few coloring books, a couple prints and several smaller items like post cards.
Participating as a dealer was a lot of work: I was up at five a.m. on Friday, running errands and picking up the car from Midas (brakes are fixed!), then hauling stuff and arranging stuff in the dealer’s room and the Art show both. (Then more work today taking it all down and packing up again.)
To be fair, part of my exhaustion is due to being up until three a.m. both Friday and Saturday nights for the music.
I’ll probably spend most of tomorrow unpacking and getting things organized again. That’s my main goal for the week: sorting things out, scheduling classes, making plans. On Tuesday I have my interview with Big Brothers/Big Sisters, no other solid plans. The only other goal is to keep up with the regular daily stuff and weekly chores.
