This morning the furnace guy finally showed up. There's a switch by the furnace, for a fan that funnels air through the heating vents. He switched it off. The heat is back. Apparently the force of the air was too much for the furnace, caused it to go out. If I'd known that two days ago I might have been warmer for the past couple days.

Meanwhile. One of the cats (I suspect Skipper) has barfed on my best coverlet, and the porch rug. Today is laundry day and I'll be doing a couple extra loads.

Checking on the furnace and doing three loads of laundry: 8 trips up and down the basement stairs.

Doing the dishes: 1 pair of waterlogged hands.

Taking out the trash: 1 trip into the bitter cold.

Doing the shopping: 2 trips into the bitter cold, and contending with crowded parking lots and crowded shops.

The glow of home-makerly pride: priceless.
