I got this book I heard about from a friend:  _Unfuck Your Habitat: You're Better Than Your Mess_, by Rachel Hoffman.

I like the approach: little bits of work on a regular basis is what got me through writing five novels and a bunch of novellas and short stories. The book's approach is one of making steady improvements and instilling good habits rather than trying to produce magazine-cover perfection. It makes use of what one of my writer groups calls 'sprinting' - 20/10 sets: 20 minutes of work followed by a 10 minute break. Or 10/10 or 5/15 or whatever works for your available time and energy.

It's also heartening to see that I've already got some good habits around keeping up with the mess. I already put laundry and groceries away if not immediately, then before the frozen stuff can melt or the cat can make a bed on the warm clothes. I already have a trash receptacle in every room and make use of them.

I already put away clean dishes - though I let them dry in the rack and I'm in no hurry about it. My morning routine takes advantage of the time it takes to heat water for coffee to shower and dress, and the time it takes for the water to finish cycling in the toilet tank (so the shower water will be hot) to scoop the kitty litter and make the bed.

My serious issues are more about more-stuff-than-storage and some problem areas where stuff accumulates and never get touched... I need to start tackling those in small sprints on a daily basis. My goal is to be ready to move house by the end of April and to bring away nothing I don't want or need.
