Friday at Minicon I arrived in good time to set up for Art Show. Thanks to Rachel Traynham for acting as Head of Art show - and not only that but helping get those slippery frame wire hangings to stay on those dirty conniving hooks!

Saturday at Minicon: I stopped in the Green Room to get some coffee and was a few minutes late to the Author Smorgasbord panel and nearly replaced, but only wound up last in the row of reading authors. The reading went well enough, though I think I should have gone on just another page or so to where the action really kicks in.
I visited with a few folk including Denny Lien and Karen Schaffer afterward, then visited the Con Suite and caught up on the first issue of the Bozo Bus Tribune (Thorin was kind enough to let me park my Filk books+gear in his office until the music room opened.)

Facebook informed me recently of SevenMpls's birthday, and I noted at the time that she hadn't posted anything in two years, so I asked Hershey if she had heard anything of the former Parties maven. At the very least, it would be nice to know that she was still in the land of the living. Hershey had no news on that. Do you?
I stopped by the Gaming room, but everyone there was already involved in a game.

I did make it to our scheduled filk concert, but laziness prevented my going first to the Green Room to meet ahead of time. At least I was in tune and on time. Yay. The sound check went well, we were all in good voice - mine didn't start to fade until the end. And I've had Heinlein's 'Green Hills of Earth' running through my mind ever since.
"We pray for one last landing on the globe that gave us birth, let us rest our eyes on the fleecy skies and the cool green hills of Earth!"

I was sorry to miss the Karaoke memorial for Ben Lessinger. It started late enough in the evening that I would have had to drive through the dark to return home later, and I avoid night driving these days.

Sunday at Minicon

I returned to the con early enough for the Easter breakfast buffet. I'd hoped to find a friend or two to join me, but made do with a good book (I'm re-reading the Midnight Louie series). After breakfast I returned to the Art Show and retrieved my  work. None of the hanging work sold, but one of the book blades did. It occurred to me that I could have made a much better job of displaying them. I'm now thinking of taking some work to ConVergence this year.

Later I stopped up at the Con Suite and visited with a few people there. It was good to see Hershey. Between Art Show and Con Suite, I felt a bit guilty for lacking the energy to do any volunteering this year.

At 1pm I attended a panel of parents about working creatively with kids. Interesting. The Artist Guest of Honor produces a podcast with her kids about trying different foods (Eve eats Everything - I looked but haven't found it.) Matt S's daughter Nora does a lot to help with parties for the Minneapolis in '73 bid. I have a pre-supporting membership, but since I'd be 118 in 2073, odds are that I won't be able to attend. I'll have to ask about how to transfer it to heirs.

At 2:30 I participated in a panel on 'The Power of Play.' We panelists all wore bunny ears. (Myself, Crystal Therese, Lyda Morehouse and Jeanne Mealy). It was fun talking about ways that humans play, and playing with work. The arts are especially playful: theater (plays!), music, any craft taken beyond its strictly utilitarian form; games! Make-believe and day dreaming... roadside attractions. It's given me a fresh respect for how vital it is to allow ourselves room for play in our lives. And has me thinking about more ways to exercise my playful nature.

After the panel I was too tired to stay for Closing Ceremonies and headed home, but I hope to attend the Dead DoDo party and Richard T's Birthday celebration on Monday evening.
