I'm up. Yoga coming up this morning. Gaming tonight.

Last night I went to the Mentor Training workshop at BB/BS. There were between 16-20 new mentors in the group. We got sandwiches and handouts with tips on free or inexpensive activities, the organization's policies, etc..

The most interesting thing was the discussion of various scenarios that can crop up in the course of mentoring - like being asked for money or expensive gifts, or being concerned about family living conditions, or what to do if something turns up missing after a visit. I liked the emphasis on turning things into learning opportunities or activities. Like: finding a cheap old bike and making a project of repairing it (rather than feel pressured to buy the kid an expensive new bike), or we could learn about budgets in deciding what activities we can plan over the course of the year, and practice using calendars if keeping appointments is a problem.
