A Hard Day's Week
I kept up with daily stuff. I did send a reminder to my bro, Jon about making the trip to Fergus, but haven't heard back.
I was a bit lax on writing, but caught up with inline comments from my CPs on the short story for the MFW anthology. The story is due soon (the 15th) and I still have a few structural issues to address, but in the meanwhile made progress preparing for the December 1st release of 'Sweet Mercy.'
During the Minicon Programming planning meeting at Conjecture, I suggested a panel on the topic of how authors can promote their work without being annoying in the process. Publishers expect us to do our own promotions (even big name publishers like Avon expect this of authors these days) and many of us are temperamentally unsuited to it. Still, it's a learning process.
Thanks to some tips from Joan Verba, who gave me the list, today I visited about a dozen websites that specialize in promotion of free download books for Amazon Kindle and I filled in forms for the promotion I'm planning for December 1st when my superhero romance novella, 'Sweet Mercy' is due to be released.
Earlier this week, I republished a version of my short story collection, 'Three Wishes' to Kindle, this time including a sneak preview excerpt of 'Sweet Mercy.' Since I suck at blogging and tweeting, this is my attempt to get some notice for the newer release. Previous free download days have shown that hundreds of people will download the short story collection and if they read it, they will be informed about 'Sweet Mercy,' which is more than any amount of blogging or tweeting can guarantee. Or that's the theory, of course. I'll let you know how it works out.
I updated my website(s) (Naomi Stone & Final Draft Partners) with an improved version of cover art for Wonder Guy (http://www.dreamspell.net/LKS/Stories/WonderGuyCover-web-sm.png).
I've been making renewed efforts at job-hunting and keeping up with temp agencies and my craigslist ads, but no new employment as yet.
During election night coverage, I crocheted a pair of fingerless mitts for myself from some nice multi-colored yarn I had on hand. The next day I crocheted a matching ear-band.
Craigslist did offer an opportunity with some long-term potential, providing simple black&white art for resale. No money up front, but potential payoff if it sells on the product in question. (See Plowproof.com) I'm not sure it's worth my time, but nonetheless, I had some ideas and have spent some time already looking up visual references and may work up a few designs when I have nothing better to do.
Last night I attended the monthly Second Sunday Rise Up Singing circle and had a great time. The teaching recordings of the 1200 songs in the book were mentioned and I recalled that I own a scarcely-used set of the discs. This morning I listed them for sale on Amazon. The set retails new for $200; I listed mine for $130. After Amazon takes its cut, that should net me enough to catch up with October's rent (note that it's now mid November) and buy some groceries. Here's hoping someone's out there is even now looking for such a deal.
