I did get a lot done this week, though I fell short on a couple goals.

One big thing was making a display box for my huckster table at Minicon: I sewed a fabric cover for a cut-down box in which I can display prints, sewing pockets onto the sides to hold post-cards, greeting cards and laminated bookmarks. It looks great!

I also updated my website with the images of the new work I've done this year, while putatively 'out of work.' This includes all the Dragon Feathers and new Single Loop Style bookmarks. Follow these links to see!

That was a lot of work, especially because I was updating my inventory database at the same time, so I would have that information when I went in to consult on my taxes. I did get together all the documentation: print-outs of proceeds from my CafePress shop (almost $100), and from my AdSense earnings (over $13!) and I added up the totals for all my expense receipts.

If I had called first, I might not have spent an hour on Saturday waiting at AccountAbility for tax help before finding out that their next Small Business tax clinic isn't until the 24th. Or, I might have spared myself a similar adventure Friday morning before discovering their hours.

I went to the U’s School of Dentistry emergency clinic on Monday – they told me I needed to get a crown for the fractured tooth. They did not prescribe anything for the pain, which was debilitating me. There was so much pain that the friends I talked with all suspected an abscess and that I would need a root canal as well. I wondered why the student and advising teacher didn’t mention this possibility. I called Max, the student I’d been working with and learned that he’s into his two weeks of finals and couldn’t see me, but he referred me to another student. This one allowed as a root canal may be necessary, but he wants to do a determining exam first.

The bad news: the earliest I could get an appointment for that is next Wednesday - the same day as the Minicon work party, which I'll probably be too groggy to attend. And in the meanwhile the tooth continues to be painful, though the shooting pains have diminished and it’s mostly a low-grade ache now.

The good news: a very kind friend is able to loan me the money to pay for a crown and the possible root canal.

For my artistic goals, I didn’t have time for writing or drawing, but I did get in a couple sessions of music practice (the prospect of my solo performance in the music venue at Minicon is motivating me) and I attended the Rise Up Singing circle last night for another few hours of singing and playing in company.

This morning I need to update Sam’s soup site, and work on signage for my display at Minicon. Price tags, etc. – general ones, and each new bookmark needs a tag with the title of the piece and a description of the featured components. I also want to do an illustrative placard that shows the bookmarks being used in books and the various ways they can be worn as adornments. I have to explain this so often I guess it’s time to take advantage of a picture being worth a thousand words.

This week’s goals revolve around Minicon: preparing for it, helping with Art Show set up, getting work up in the Art Show, getting my huckster table set up, and minding the shop for most of the con (wrangling help so I can attend some programming), participating in music events, getting enough rest, and having a good time at it – while commuting back and forth and keeping myself, cats and home in good shape in the process.
