It's the day of the regular monthly Filk Circle, and I'd already scheduled a morning session with Bethany when I found out about the Rivendell group's annual birthday party for Bilbo and Frodo. So far so good:

I picked up Bethany this morning at 10a.m. and we went to Mosaic-on-a-stick for a free workshop making mosaics that will later decorate planters along Snelling Avenue. There's already one out on the corner opposite the Ginkgo Cafe. The workshop was fun, but hard work cracking those ceramic tiles into pieces small enough to use! Bethany is not a color-inside-the-lines girl, so they may end up not using her free form piece, and I didn't have time to finish mine, between helping her and taking fussy care to fit pieces tightly into the design - but we had fun!

I brought her home at one o'clock and headed directly over to the Fridley address where the Bagginses' Birthday Party was being hosted. I had a little trouble finding the drive that led back to a nice house overlooking the Mississippi River, but was greeted warmly by David L's mother, who fed me tea and a bit of lunch while we waited for other arrivals. (I'd beaten everyone else there.) It's a long time since I'd attended a Rivendell event, and it was nice to see some old familiar faces as well as meeting a few new people. I stayed a couple hours, and joined in the toasts to Bilbo and Frodo, and Tolkein himself before I had to go. (I neatly avoided running headlong into David E. on my way out the drive.)

Shortly: Off to filk!
