Free credit reports

For anyone who doesn't already know about this site, and wants to take advantage of the requirement that the major credit reporting services must provide you with a free copy of your report (annually), check out this link!

They want to charge you for your credit score, but you can say no and just print out the report.

Yeah, what she said. I did the free credit report from all 3 major sites, and it seemed to work fine. Just don't accept ANY of the additional "services" they will try to press on you. If you negotiate around all of those and just stick with the basic credit report, it works fine.

To my pleased surprise, I found no errors in any of the 3 reports. After all I've heard about the sloppy record keeping at these institutions, I was steeling myself for finding problems.

My one problem with the reports is that they don't seem to distinguish between the debts that were closed during bankruptcy and the ones (student loans) that were paid off in full; the bankruptcy is just listed as such.

I've only looked the reports over in a cursory way so far, though, and it might not make any real difference to potential lenders how the accounts are listed. Either way the bankruptcy looks bad and it's on there for another six years.
