What a great idea. This link has instructions for crocheting totes from all those plastic grocery sacks that pile up (in my case filling a whole kitchen cupboard.)
I've made huge inroads into my stock of plastic bags and converted a good many to a ball of 'yarn' which is now about the size of a volley-ball. It's amazing how much the process compacts the bags.
