I vacuumed the rug today, picking up the residue of lint from the paper towels with which I cleaned up Tigger's barf day before yesterday, so that now you can no longer tell where the unfortunate events occurred.

That's 'events,' plural, because Tigger barfed in three separate places yesterday, and on several occasions before that. (These events say a lot about his opinions on the food I serve him. This time he didn't like the scraps of tilapia (for which he begged) that I'd cooked in salsa.)

I discovered the first event with my foot, and cleaned up the two deposits containing solid evidence, but missed the merely liquid one that my sister, Melanie found later with her foot. (It was a clear liquid, hard to see unless it caught the light at a certain angle, so it's no wonder that I missed it.)

Apparently, Melanie assumed that I wanted people to take their outdoor shoes off upon entering my home. (In fact, I have no such requirement.) As it was, she washed out her sock in the sink while I cleaned up, and to replace it, at least temporarily, I gave her one of the solitary socks that I keep around out of sentiment, after their partners have been lost. (This one was a pretty, deep pink, almost red sock, which totally mismatched her aqua pair, but c'est la vie).

This morning I also washed up the dishes that tend to accumulate in my sink, and was finally inspired to tend to my house plants.

I've had a Silver Queen for a long time now. I don't remember exactly when I got it, but I know I had it back in 1990 when I lived on North 4th Street in Minneapolis and was drawing the portrait of Brust with Jhereg. For some reason, the immediate scene surrounding the creation of a drawing tends to stick in my memory more than most things do. I remember noticing the plants while I was drawing.

Lately, this Silver Queen has been outgrowing its pot. Its four stalks had each grown well over a foot taller than the pot, and were bending at angles out to the sides while the lower range of leaves turned yellow. Sadly, repotting has been a low-priority item on my endless list of projects. I've put off the repotting for weeks, if not months. Today I found my loppers and chopped off the top ends of the stalks, cleared off the dead and yellowed leaves, and then stuck the stalks in jars of water to root. I chopped off the remaining stalks and put them in a jar to root. In cleaning up the dead leaves I found a lot of dried seed pods and put those aside in a baggie, in case I get inspired to grow some more Silver Queens from seed.

If anyone local wants Silver Queen seed and/or rooted stalks, please let me know.

While I was caring for the plants I set up the space heater in the front porch where most of my plants are located, and watered the rest. I'd been putting off the set up of the space-heater, too, but with the weather getting colder I want to assure that it doesn't get cold enough out there to freeze the plants.
