Yesterday I attended the MFW Holiday Party, at a large, beautiful home way out in Hopkins.
I got to see the people with whom I'm slowly growing familiar, including Greta McC, who shares my interest in F/SF. There was a potluck, to which I brought a tray of fresh grapes and cantelope. (And at which I ate tortellini and corn bread and pita with hummus). There was an auction, to which I contributed one of my jeweled bookmarks and at which I went over-budget to buy a critique session with a published author and a basket on the 'Brain Storming' theme. (And a couple smaller items which I can pass on as gifts). It was fun, and ended early enough for me to get home and spend a little time with the cats before going out again.
Then there was the monthly Rise Up Singing circle. It was fairly small this time, but there were still three guitars, an accordian and myself in addition to the non-instrument-playing singers. I always enjoy the singing itself. This time my picks were River, Hold On, and Plaisir d'Amour. We ended on The Parting Glass.
* The 'Brainstorming Basket' contains 'items to stimulate the little gray cells':
Stickers, Notebooks, Pens, Calendar, Wine (Chardonney and Zinfandel) Coffee and Frangos, plus books: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Getting Your Romance Published, The Romance Writer's Phrase Book, What's Next (After You Get the Call) and Inspiration & Motivation.
