WEEK OF May 22-29, 2023
Last week was mostly good, right up until the fender bender on Sunday, which has already disrupted this week going forward. Last week I made my usual two visits to Terry in Edina and participated in a filk circle/potluck on Saturday in South Minneapolis. We met outdoors on the patio at Dreampark (Richard T and Sharon K's place). The weather was perfect, with light breezes and accompanying bird tweets for the music.
I had planned to attend a family picnic on Memorial Day. Instead I spent a lot of time on the phone with first, a Progressive rep, then later an ESurance rep.
The Progressive rep (my insurance company) found that I was not at fault in the fender bender that caught me in the Aldi parking lot on Sunday afternoon, so they would not cover the costs of repairing the damage to my car. Instead, I was to file a claim with the other driver's insurance company, ESurance.
I took some pictures of the right front fender. It looks to be partly detached and partly crumpled. The spare tire has no hub cap now, as that was a bit damaged too. The right front door of the car won't open. I drove home safely from Aldi on Sunday (after AAA changed out the damaged tire for the spare), but I'm concerned about doing any highway driving before I have a chance to get the alignment checked and get a new tire in place of the spare.
Now, after some discussion with the ESurance adjustor, I've learned that it will be at least a couple days before I can get an estimate to bring the car to the garage of my choice. And because such places tend to be backed up, it may be a month before the work can be done. If I want the alignment checked or a rental vehicle in the meanwhile, I'd have to go ahead on my own dime.
