WEEK OF Aug 28 - Sept 4, 2023
I wimped out during the hot weather over the weekend. I had planned to delay my Friday visit to Terry until Saturday and go afterward to the Mnstf picnic. Plans change. Terry was moved to Fairview Southdale for wound care on her feet. I can't afford hospital parking lot costs and in the past have only found her asleep when I try in-hospital visits, so made only one visit last week, and wound up staying home from the picnic, too, being discouraged by the heat and the cost of gas money to travel from Fridley. I did not practice my mandolin, but did get out my soprano recorder and practiced sounding out a few melodies, including Schumann's Happy Farmer.
Otherwise, I mostly stayed home with the air conditioning, reading, keeping up with the usual chores, errands and TV shows. On Saturday evening I watched a show honoring Joni Mitchell on the occasion of her being awarded the Gershwin Prize. Many stars participated, including James Taylor, Graham Nash, Brandi Carlile, and Cindy Lauper, all performing covers of Joni's songs. I think they missed two of my favorites, so those were playing through my head when I should have been sleeping later. ('Raised on Robbery' and 'You Turn Me On I'm a Radio')
