I've applied a few more coats of the Art Clay (four to go!). And: below is the latest wax-resist experiment. I'm not too pleased with the resistance of the wax. A lot of light-under color got washed out (not enough contrast between under and over coats?) and didn't show through as it should, so I ended up adding more color on top of the watercolor, which is okay, but I like the effect better when the wax-resist works. I'm wondering if I ought to find a smoother quality paper for this, so the crayon applies more thickly, or melt the crayons and use some sort of applicator?

at a guess from this image, it seems it is the paper contributing to that unsmooth texture.

It might look cool w/some beads. Hee: but I LOVE collaging and 3d art, so don't mind me.

Aurora would LOVE this; I'll have to remember to show her.

If you want it really smooth can you use a glossy sealant or a tool - would those "stamp air heaters" they use to melt metallic powders onto stamp art melt these crayon paints further?

Aurora likes the kinds that she dips in water & then colors with - but I've also tried these that you color first then "melt" - I think the first kind gets a smoother "sketchless" look to it, since the medium has melted pre-application.

Have fun trying out options! This work looks very nice, I think, even with the texture to it. But, I love sketch art & textured art. I think that's one thing that draws me to oil paints (but, when I tried them the smell drove me insane, and they took soooo many days for each layer to dry: wow.) I've considered trying plaster or clay but haven't figured a way to do that. I might try oils again, if I ever get access to a rentable space/like a community arts center: I used that a lot when I lived near one that was affordable.

Thanks! I think the paper texture is a factor. I'll have to keep experimenting on the other front; I havent heard of 'stamp air heaters' - I'll look into it. I've seen kits for melting wax for batik designs, which might be exactly what I need, too...

Yes; show it to Aurora!

Sorry I missed your Birthday Party. I was actually looking forward to it. I threw out my back in a painful way and had to have it adjusted by my chiropractor (which only took away half of the pain).

I hope you had a grand affair. It sounded like it would be fun.

I'm sorry you couldn't make it. It was a lot of fun, but your presence would have been a nice addition. :)
